Yayasan Lentera Studi Indonesia, in partnership with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS), Kyoto University, invites applications for the Lentera Studi Indonesia Fellowship 2026. This fellowship provides Indonesian scholars with a unique opportunity to undertake focused research and writing in a vibrant international academic environment in Kyoto, Japan.
1 to 6 months, depending on applicant’s availability.
July – December 2026 (subject to space at CSEAS).
JPY 130,000–160,000 (excluding accommodation)

* Fellows must acknowledge YLSI’s support and actively engage in networking activities at CSEAS.
Evaluation is based on originality, feasibility, and academic track record.
Applicants must:
- Be Indonesian citizens holding a PhD degree
- Be affiliated with an Indonesian university, think tank, or research institution
- Work in political science, sociology, psychology, political economy, political anthropology, or closely related fields
-Demonstrate a strong research track record and clear research agenda
Proposed research may:
- Focus on Indonesia and/or comparative perspectives
- Be academic, policy-relevant, or both
There are no predefined thematic restrictions. Applicants are encouraged to propose original and impactful research topics.

- A 2–3 page research proposal, including:
- Background
- Research significance
- Research questions
- Working hypothesis
- Methodology
- Research plan during the fellowship
- Two writing samples
- One letter of recommendation
